Why home charging is crucial for a holistic EV fleet strategy
Home charging plays a pivotal role for employees relying on EVs as their primary mode of transportation. By allowing fleet users to easily charge their vehicles overnight at their homes, the need to constantly search for public charging stations is eliminated. Pair this with charging options at the office and on-the-road and you’ll be prepared for every eventuality.
The risk of not allowing home charging for fleet users
Opting for home charging offers a significantly more cost-effective solution compared to relying on public EV chargers. Our firsthand experience has shown that employees without access to home charging can place a financial burden on businesses, as they are forced to use public EV chargers at a much higher cost.
Zapmap states that the average price to use a public EV charger in March 2024 was 56p/kWh on slow/fast chargers (<50kW) and 81p/kWh for rapid/ultra-rapid chargers (50kW+).
Using an average efficiency EV, Zapmap says this equates to 17p per mile (ppm) and 24p per mile respectively. In comparison, a standard home tariff from E.On is 25p/kWh, roughly 8p per mile.
