Breaking down what electrical vehicle (EV) charge point grants are available for your business, and how you can use them to reduce installation costs.

Breaking down what the Workplace Charging Scheme is (WCS)
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides applicants with support for the purchase and installation costs of EV charge points. The government scheme is run by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and is the most widely used EV grant.

The scheme allows for up to £350 per charging socket (maximum of 40 sockets) and can reduce the costs of installing a new charge point by 75%.

Are you eligible for the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)?
The scheme is available to any business, charity or public sector organisation. Small accommodation businesses have recently been added to the grant’s scope too. Which includes:

  • Hotels and similar organisations
  • Short-stay holiday accommodation
  • Campgrounds and recreational vehicle parks

The following conditions apply for applicants:

  • You must be a registered business, charity or public sector organisation based in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
  • You must have off-street parking available, which is only used by fleet or staff.
  • You must own the property or have consent from your landlord.
  • You must use an OZEV approved installer like Devitech.
  • You don’t currently need to have electric vehicles as part of your fleet, but you will need to express a future business need for electric vehicles.
  • Under the WCS scheme, EV charger usage must be restricted to staff and fleet use only. However, accommodation businesses will be permitted to let guests use the charge points.

Still not sure on whether you’re eligible for the scheme? Before claiming the grant, we recommend speaking to an OZEV approved installer, like Devitech. Our EV charging experts can be by your side for the entire process, offering help and support as needed.

Breaking down the EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleet
The EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleet will give a contribution to businesses towards the infrastructure of EV charge points, as well as for installing the charge points themselves.

The scheme allows for up to £850 to be used for each private parking space that the charging infrastructure and charge point is required for, up to the value of £15,000 per building. If more charge points are needed in addition to those provided by this grant, then the Workplace Charging Scheme may be used at the same time.

Are you eligible for the EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleet?
The scheme is available to small and medium sized businesses with the following conditions:

  • You can use £500 towards each socket.
  • You can use £350 per bay for supporting infrastructure (e.g. electric cabling and electrical supply points) to power charge points.
  • You can use the maximum grant of up to £15,000 per site
  • You can only use five grants in total per financial year (Each grant claimed must be for a different site).

Breaking down the EV charge point grant for landlords
The EV charge point grant for landlords gives financial support to landlords to buy and install electric vehicle EV charge points at commercial properties in the UK. Landlords can receive up to 75% of the cost towards the purchase and installation of a charge point, limited to £350 per charge point. Landlords can receive up to 100 grants for commercial properties.

To access the grant, a landlord must first register. Installers approved by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) can then make claims for work completed on their behalf, like Devitech.

Are you eligible for the EV charge point grant for landlords?
The scheme is available to landlords, but they must have private parking available for current and future fleet and staff to apply. The following conditions apply too:

  • You can apply for up to 100 grants for commercial properties per financial year.
  • You can submit one application per building, not mixing residential and commercial properties together.

Still not sure on whether you’re eligible for the scheme? Before claiming the grant, we recommend speaking to an OZEV approved installer, like Devitech. Our EV charging experts can be by your side for the entire process, offering help and support as needed.
