The importance of site assessments before EV charger installations

Let’s discuss site assessments - why they matter, why you need one and how they’re conducted.

What is a site assessment or site survey?
A site assessment or survey is the evaluation that needs to take place before your EV chargers are installed. During the site assessment, our engineers can identify your site’s electrical capacity, design requirements, and more.

Site assessments can add value to all stakeholders in an EV charging project. The key benefit is their ability to identify and provide commentary on potential issues and how these can be rectified.

They cover a number of issues:

  • Project details, updates and programme delivery, e.g. Do you need an end-to-end service including groundworks, bay markings and project management?;
  • Design requirements, construction materials, compliance and procurement;
  • An overview of site-based risk management activities, e.g. General site safety, HSE activities, and testing and commissioning;
  • Assessing electrical capacity and supply;
  • Assessing Wi-Fi connectivity and signal strength for EV chargers.

The crucial part of an EV charging site assessment: Assessing electrical capacity
To find the right EV chargers for your operation, it’s best to look at the needs and wants of your business first. When a Devitech specialist conducts a free site assessment, we obtain crucial information, like your site’s electrical supply and capacity, to give you the technical facts up front so we can give you informed recommendations from the outset. Your electrical capacity on site is critical to what EV chargers can be installed.

For most clients, an Easee 22kw model is our top recommendation because of its future-proofing potential. Once you’ve installed the initial infrastructure, you can continually add to your network with its dynamic load-balancing capabilities. EV charging load-balancing instructs the chargers to deliver the right amount of energy and manages the energy flow across chargers, the power grid and on-site energy storage systems.

It all starts with a simple phone call. We don’t expect our customers to be experts in EV charging. We know there’s so much to take in, so we’re here to help you every step of the way. To start your EV charging journey, contact us.
