We’ve shared a guide on electric vehicle grants for businesses and education settings, including what each grant covers.

Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions

State-funded education institutions, such as schools and universities, can apply for the Workplace Charging Scheme. This scheme aims to accelerate the uptake of electric charge points in education sites, helping with the purchase, installation and infrastructure costs of EV charging stations.

This grant can cover up to 75% of the costs of buying and installing EV chargers, (up to £2,500 per socket and 40 sockets across all sites) for education institutions and state-funded schools. Academy trusts can also apply for up to 40 sockets for each institution within that trust. The funded assistance makes installing EV chargers more accessible for educational settings.

If successful, you’ll receive a voucher valid for 180 days to complete the EV charger installation.

Electric vehicle infrastructure grant for staff and fleets

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) can apply for the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant for staff and fleets. This grant offers SMEs money off electric vehicle (EV) installation costs and supports the infrastructure of their staff and fleet vehicles.

The EV infrastructure grant helps cover the costs of installing multiple chargepoint sockets across the site, whether now or in the future. You can receive 75% of the work cost for a maximum of £15,000, including up to £350 per chargepoint and £500 per parking space, enabled to support the infrastructure. Every SME can receive up to 5 grants across 5 different sites.

SMEs are eligible for the grant if you’re a business with 249 employees or fewer,  registered at Companies House or VAT registered with HMRC, and the property is in the UK.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant

For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant is a voucher-based scheme for electric car charger installation, covering up to 75% of the cost and £350 for each socket, across 40 sockets.

The three top considerations for WCS include:

  • Use an authorised EV charger installer (like us)
  • Be registered with Companies House and have a business reference number
  • Either own the premises for the charging station or have the landlord’s permission for the charger installation.

Businesses can apply for WCS online. If successful, the voucher is generated and valid for four months. Learn more about the Workplace Charging Scheme
